Find hidden gems at this Coast boutique

GALLIVANTING around the world, Jess Bos was inspired to open a boutique showcasing the hidden gems she found along the way.

Turning a dream in to reality, Ms Bos did just that with the opening of Melaki on Sixth Avenue at Maroochydore last Sunday.

The store contains a collection of vintage clothing Ms Bos has picked up from her travels, as well as niche accessories, swimwear and local handmade goods.

"My husband and I have been travelling for four years, collecting from all over the world and just saw it (vintage clothing) everywhere else and figured the Sunshine Coast needed something like this,” she said.

"We've travelled to 30 countries and have picked up a lot of stuff along the way and just though Maroochydore was the perfect place to open a store.”

The store focuses on sustainability and eco fashion and Ms Bos was even offering a deal to those wanting to bring in some of their old threads.

"For girls that have bulk clothing, I'm offering to buy it off them that way they can get either cash or a store voucher and they can get new stuff for their old stuff,” she said.

"Obviously everything is checked for stains and rips and its all washed and steamed and looking beautiful.

"So much clothing just gets thrown out and just goes to waste so we may as well reuse it.”

Ms Bos said she aimed at offering unique pieces of clothing that you couldn't find anywhere else.

"I'm just constantly turning over and putting new stock in,” she said.

"Every week whatever I sell I have a report and it will tell me how many vintage skirts, tops, dresses have sold and then I'll just replenish it. I have loads of stock.”

"The vintage flares and the really out there and quirky things that you can't get at every boutique are proving to be popular.”

Not wanting the guys to miss out, Ms Bos also carries a small range of men's fashion.

"It's really hard to source men's vintage but I will stick to a nice range of men's Hawaiian shirts and Harley Davidson's shirts.”

Ms Bos said she also likes to support other local business owners in the area.

She currently has a handmade candle and melts ranges in store as well as local artwork, handmade jewellery and skincare.

She said she hoped to include more local brands in the near future.

"I just want it to be a fun place where you can come in, try loads on, find unique pieces that you love and then walk out really happy having had a good experience and a bit of an adventure in here.”

Melaki is located at 4/64 Sixth Avenue, Maroochydore.
