A FINAL quarter Serbian comeback has sunk Australia 11-8 in the quarter-finals of the men's water polo at the London Olympics.
Having never beaten Serbia, Australia was ranked as an outside chance to progress to the last four of the competition.
But a massive shock was on the cards when the Australians took a three goal lead into the last quarter.
However, Serbia - undefeated at these Olympics - scored six unanswered goals to complete a remarkable comeback and maintain its 100 percent record over Australia.
Serbia started the game quickly, bouncing out to a two-goal lead before the Australians hit back with a three goal salvo.
The Australians continued to pile on the pressure in the second and third quarters, gaining an 8-5 lead heading into the final quarter.
But the Serbians were too good for the overwhelmed Australians in the fourth quarter, setting up a showdown with either Italy or Hungary in the semi-finals.
