CHRISTMAS cheer filled the air on Friday night.

About 5000 residents from across the region gathered at the 2012 GLNG Mayor's Carols by Candlelight at the Gladstone Marina stage.

The crowd settled on the grass, sitting on blankets and chairs, enjoying the balmy weather and beautiful voices.

All the Christmas favourites such as Away in a Manger and Silent Night echoed through the warm summer air.

Special guest entertainer Glenn Cunningham performed songs from his debut album Soul Document Vol 1.

The Voice finalist was a big hit among the crowd, which was wowed by his interpretation of old classics.

The carols marked the start of the festive season of fun and frivolity.

Gladstone Mayor Gail Sellers said it was an incredible night.
