Festival success turns love of Indonesian food into diner
TOOWOOMBA is welcoming a new restaurant to its CBD, with Indonesian street food style diner Skewers to open off Margaret St.
Owner Joshua Budiman said with the help of wife Lindra, Skewers would look to open before Easter.
The restaurant will add to the already expanding selection of world foods available in Toowoomba, with Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Korean and Japanese diners popular in the region.
Mr Budiman said he held a food stall at last year's Language and Culture festival in Toowoomba that sold out by about 1.30pm.
"I see the rise of good food and hangout places in Toowoomba, and people are really keen to see something new, and the local council are very keen to see a lot of ethnic restaurants open up," he said.
"We saw the opportunity and went for it."
The ex-Melbournites said friends and work-colleagues had also been supportive of their cooking, with spring rolls becoming an instant hit at events.
A floor plan with about 220m2 will host an extensive dining area and kitchen, with renovations currently under way.
Opening hours were planned to be from 11am to 9pm Sunday to Thursday with later hours on Friday and Saturday nights.
Skewers will be opened at 2 Club Ln.
