OUR SAY: Feminism still has long way to go
AS FAR as I'm concerned, feminism as a movement hasn't come far enough.
A friend of mine messaged me yesterday.
She's the same age as me, unmarried, and friends constantly ask her when she will meet the right bloke and settle down.
It's amazing to me how so many people, women included, still see getting married and having children as the pinnacle of a woman's existence.
Getting married to the right person and having babies is a wonderful thing to do - if that's what you want and if you have met the right person.
My friend loves her work, is living overseas and has achieved a lot in her life - but to some that means nothing because she hasn't been married or had children.
Why do we think that a wedding is the ultimate validation of our self-worth?
Women are so much more than a piece of paper.
Another thing that irritates me no end is the questions I get over why I haven't changed my surname since I got married a few years ago.
My name is part of who I am.
Maybe people should ask if my husband might change his name?
