THE Nationals and Labor have ramped up the rhetoric in the electorate of Flynn in advance of this year's federal election, with Ken O'Dowd MP and Labor candidate Zac Beers both releasing statements claiming people of the Burnett will be better off under them.

In health, Mr O'Dowd's office said it was a "fallacy” that there had been funding cuts to hospitals in Flynn and Central Queensland and that the Coalition would be delivering $2.2 billion more to Queensland hospitals in 2019 compared to the former federal Labor government in their last year in government in 2012-13.

They accused the state Labor government of "putting politics before patients” and implored them to sign up to the latest five-year funding agreement, which will deliver "more doctors, more nurses and more services” amidst a purported $30.2b additional spend across Australia.

Meanwhile, the Labor candidate for Flynn, Zac Beers, chose to focus on Labor's education credentials, accusing Mr O'Dowd of "missed opportunities” for people in the Burnett.

He said under Labor's Fair Go for Public Schools plan, Flynn would gain an additional $27,980,000 over three years, including $2,140,000 for public schools in the North Burnett, ranging from $420,000 for Burnett State College down to $30,000 for Binjour Plateau State School.

Both sides are claiming "record” extra funding.
