Fatal crash overnight closes New England Hwy at Bolivia

THE New England Highway is currently closed between Tenterfield and Glen Innes following a fatal car accident overnight.

The accident occurred at Bolivia, which is around 30km south of Tenterfield.

Emergency services remain on site while investigations into the accident continue.

The Bruxner Highway, Summerland Way and Gwydir Highway can be used as an alternative, however as this route will add around four hours additional travel time, motorists are advised to delay their trip.

Motorists wishing to use the diversion should note there is a 2.5m width restriction on the Gwydir Highway between Glen Innes and Grafton due to a landslip a few weeks ago.

Additionally, a truck accident 45km south of Glen Innes has closed all northbound lanes of the New England Highway at this location.

Traffic is getting past the accident site under alternating (stop/slow) conditions using the southbound carriageway.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution when passing the accident site.
