Fashion wins out at 2014 People's Choice Awards

THE 40th Annual People's Choice Awards took place at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre overnight, giving some of our favourite stars the chance to strut their stuff on the red carpet.

There were plenty of winners in both the awards and fashion stakes, with Hollywood's hottest showing us mere mortals how to rock the latest trends - and in some cases, what to avoid.

Topping our best dressed list was The Reign actress Adelaide Kane, who dazzled in a breathtaking white lace and sheer bustier dress and white strappy heels.

Wild child Paris Hilton made an impression in a surprisingly demure choice, donning a vibrant coral/orange long sleeve lace baby doll dress that combined the comeback of classic lace with the nineties neon currently making a splash on catwalks.

Maxi skirts were big on the red carpet this year, with People's Choice Favourite Comedic TV Actress award winner Kaley Cuoco and American television personality Keltie Knight both opting for this relaxed trend, while Hollywood sweetheart Sandra Bullock and actress Allison Williams oozed sophistication; Sandra looking gorgeous as usual in a navy, blue and green number while Allison put a new spin on the monochrome look by combining white and the very trendy cobalt blue in one sleek and sexy dress.

On the other end of the scale, proving that even celebrities make bad calls, Big Bang Theory's Melissa Rauch's fluorescent pink crepe ball gown stood out for all the wrong reasons, while actress Malin Ackerman's take on the monochrome trend left little to the imagination, showing of way too much cleavage.

On the awards front, Sandra Bullock cleaned up, earning awards for Favourite Comedic Movie Actress, Favourite Movie Actress, Favourite Dramatic Movie Actress and Favourite Movie Duo, as well as receiving gongs for Favourite Comedy Movie and Favourite Dramatic Movie for her 2013 hits The Heat and Gravity; while Britney Spears made a comeback, receiving the nod for Favourite Pop Artist.

Overall the celebrities dazzled at the first awards show of what looks set to be a fantastic season, leaving fashion lovers here at Style HQ excited at what 2014 has in store.
