Farewell Lady Flo, you will be sadly missed

ON BEHALF of Fraser Coast Regional Council, I want to send our condolences to the family of Lady Florence "Flo" Bjelke-Petersen who passed away peacefully at 97 years (on Wednesday).

Lady Flo was an Australian politician, writer, wife, mother, farmer and cook.

Her passion for cooking led to her becoming a household name for her legendary pumpkin scones.

She was a member of the Australian Senate from 1981 to 1993 and was the wife of Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen, the longest-serving Premier of Queensland.

Lady Flo always carried herself with dignity throughout their political careers and balanced it well with their family life on the farm at Kingaroy.

She related well with people from all walks of life and will be sadly missed.

- Fraser Coast Mayor Chris Loft
