TOOWOOMBA'S Likayla Walsh-Scott was given the surprise of her life with Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie special guests at a local childcare centre.

Newtown's Kath Dickson Early Education and Care Centre played host to the well-known Sesame Street residents as they spent time with excited Toowoomba youngsters.

For Likayla it was a dream come true to meet her favourite character.

"Likayla has had a plush Ernie toy since she was six-months-old and absolutely idolises him," mother Jodie Scott said.

"She didn't know Ernie was coming today so it was a huge surprise.

"It was great to see her so happy and I'm sure she will be talking about it for weeks to come."

The centre visit was in support of the upcoming Elmo's World Tour show at the Empire Theatre on October 14

"We like to come out to one childcare centre in all the areas the show tours," Elmo's World Tour promoter Fred Porter said.

"It is great to give the kids an opportunity to meet their favourite characters."

Information on the tour is at sesamestreetpresents.com.au.
