Family matters still relevant
DEFINING the family is a tricky business. For some, a family is mum, dad, 2.5 kids and a white picket fence. Others may not be so nuclear.
Anglicare Central Queensland CEO Philip Shade comes across many families in his line of work.
And he said the importance of the family unit should never be underestimated.
The concept of family has undergone an evolution, he said.
"It's changed from the traditional mum, dad, kid and a dog."
What hasn't changed is the very human need for connection.
"Relationships with people sits at the heart of who we are," Mr Shade said.
He had a single piece of advice: "Above all, tell (your family) that you love them.
"Tell the people close to you, just how important they are."
