Families unite for fun day
THESE tots know mum’s the word, but there’s concern held for the support of parents with multiple children in regional towns.
Roma local Chaye Harvey, who is the proud mum of Kelcee (5), Keynan (4), Joelan (2) and Callan (2), organised a Saturday fun day for families of twins, triplets and more living in Roma and the surrounding towns for Multiple Birth Awareness Week.
With another set of twins on the way, Ms Harvey said she organised the fun day to raise awareness of families with multiple births.
“It’s more common than people would usually think, and I just want to try and create a bit of awareness in the community for parents who look after several children in their lives,” she said.
Ms Harvey, who is also a part of the Toowoomba and District Multiple Birth Association (TMBA), said the fun day would be a good opportunity for parents who need a network in rural towns to connect with each other, and create a great day of fun for the kids.
And she has felt it herself, with a loving and supporting husband and friends there to help through difficult times.
“I wouldn’t change the situation for the world; managing four with two on the way is a great privilege, and I love my kids,” Ms Harvey said.
“It’s all about boosting the support networks between parents and helping others understand that there are people out here who can offer support.”
But Ms Harvey said the family fun day was a great day for everybody, with a jumping castle (donated by Apex Roma) and Easter egg hunt for the little ones.
Ladbrooks have also organised a free $50 meat voucher raffle for all those who attend. Parents will also be entitled to a free hot/cold drink at the cafe.
