THIS week is Multicultural Week, and our photographer Paul Braven spoke to a few people at Gladstone Library about their culture and background.

Azalea and Jessie Orchard, 3:

"I was born and raised in China and so far I've been in Australia for 12 years.

"Previously in China I had done work in administration and book keeping, but moving to Australia I decided to study more.

"For three years I studied and finished my course in accounting.

"I have two kids, a little girl Jessie, 3 and a son Jack, 6.

"They both knew how to speak Mandarin but Jack's slowly forgetting it since starting school.

"In Gladstone there's a huge Chinese community and the number of multicultural people is amazing, it's great."

Hiroko and Myla Fujinaga, 18 months:

"I moved here to Australia one year ago, from Japan. For work reasons me and my partner moved here, he's half Japanese half Aussie.

"It's great meeting other people from different cultures like Pakistan, New Zealand, Philippines and that's just to name a few.

"I love being able to share and experience the different cultures and their different cuisines."

Machda Tambunan, Sabrina Sekti, 3, and Madina Sekti, 8 months:

"Back in 2007 I moved to Australia from Indonesia by myself.

I was studying at the time in Brisbane and after two years I got my bachelors degree in psychology.

"Right now I'm not working because I'm too busy being a full-time mum.

"It's great to see people from all different cultures come together.

"Compared to when I lived in Brisbane, I find it much easier to surround myself with diverse people."
