‘Famestars’ in the spotlight
Last week Leisa Foran gave birth, but the tireless talent school principal is already back to work, preparing for this weekend's FAME Talent School concerts.
"I gave myself seven days maternity leave, and tomorrow we've got a big rehearsal day so I'll take my newborn with me," she said on Tuesday.
"My newborn is just going to hang out with all the kids… I've got a 15-month-old too and he was born just before the eisteddfod, so he had to do the same."
It's the older students who will be in the spotlight at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre this weekend - with a variety of pantomime, dance and singing performances.
The first half is a magic-themed pantomime entitled Spellbound, told by drama and music theatre students and featuring dancing from the tiny tots.
The second half is a showcase of jazz, tap and contemporary dancers as well as some solo singers.
Ms Foran said the pantomime would be a standout.
"The drama and music theatre students having been working really hard on getting that one together," she said.
"They've been working on it since the eisteddfod so they've only had about five weeks but it's coming together really well."
She said she was also impressed with this year's tap dancing talent.
"Our tap this year has really picked up, all the routines are really cool," she said.
The 1980s-themed finale will also be one to watch at the talent school's fifth annual concert.
"It's all fluoro and denim and white shoes," said Foran.
And while juggling new birth and concert production in the same week may be a challenge, Ms Foran has all the support she needs. "It has been crazy but I've got these amazing teachers who have taken over for me.
"They've been doing all the last-minute rehearsals and photo day," she said.
FAME Talent School's Famestars in the Spotlight concert will show at the MECC Auditorium on tomorrow at 7pm and Saturday at 11am.
Tickets range from $25 for children under 12 to $40 for adults.
