Expo engineers excitement
PEAKED engineer’s caps were at the height of fashion at the Darling Downs Model Railway Club exhibition in Toowoomba at the weekend.
Hundreds of club members got the chance to show off the result of thousands of man hours — and dollars — to the Toowoomba public.
“It can be an expensive hobby, but we do it because we love it,” club secretary Ted Freeman said.
“You get people from all walks of life, but once they’re here they all share a common identity.”
Mr Freeman said it was hard to pick a favourite among the displays.
“We’ve got entries from as far as Coffs Harbour,” he said.
“Some of them are sleeping in the hall, acting as security at night.
“Everyone’s gone to a lot of effort to bring their stuff along, so it’s hard to choose a favourite.”
But for two-year-old Fletcher Schick, a hands-on experience with the Lego train set was always going to be a winner.
