IT SHOULD come as no surprise that while Australia's craving for mobile apps continues to boom, job vacancies within the industry are growing by the day.

Education facilitator NowLearning has revealed a huge surge in inquiries about new courses for those who want a career as an app developer.

"These courses have obviously been created off the back of a flourishing industry, which did not even exist three years ago," Will Panton from NowLearning says.

Charles Sturt University, RMIT and the University of Technology, Sydney are among the many Australian universities that teach courses on mobile applications development.

The director of the mobile app developer b2cloud, Josh Guest, says completing one of these courses "gives you the edge over others when applying for jobs in this unique industry".

"Although you don't need to be too highly qualified to work in the industry, we are looking for people who have some experience in building mobile apps," he says.

Varun Kumar recently completed a master of information technology (professional computing) at Swinburne University, and says subjects he took on software development for mobile devices and creating data for mobile applications "helped me secure an internship at b2cloud".

"There are so many opportunities in this industry, I would have been mad not to do a course that would set me up for such a bright future," he says.
