Eventful first week in Taroom ends happily on Christmas

NO ONE can deny Clinton McCreery has had an eventful start to his new posting with the Queensland Ambulance Service in Taroom.

Clinton, an Advanced Care Paramedic 2, was just three days into a new position in the Banana Shire town when he attended a traffic crash last Tuesday.

One of the patients, Samantha, was very concerned about her rottweiler puppy Loki, who was in the back of the vehicle when it crashed.

Clinton feared the worst when Loki couldn't be found.

"We didn't think anything would survive because there's lots of dingoes and wild pigs out there," he said.

Clinton was showing his officer in charge the accident site on Christmas Eve when Loki came bounding out of the bushes, hungry and thirsty, but otherwise unscathed.

Samantha was given the best present when she was reunited with Loki on Christmas Day after she was released from hospital.

It was an eventful introduction to the area for Clinton, who previously worked in Brisbane and Maryborough.

Clinton said there were challenges to working in a small community, with paramedics responding to jobs alone.

But working in a close-knit community also has its perks.

Clinton said he liked the community-minded nature of the town, where everyone was happy to lend a hand.
