Escape to a black spot and really get away
MAYBE Mackay needs to promote its black spots as a way for people to escape technology.
There are certainly enough spots that people have identified where there are problems with reception.
Some are very close to home.
This Easter many people will be heading to their favourite camping site to get away from technology, but when you live in an area with a poor mobile signal it can be frustrating if not impacting on a person's way of life.
Daily Mercury Facebook users have shared their local knowledge, pinpointing black spots for mobile services throughout the region - even in some parts of the city.
Katie Dow said there is no phone service near the new food court toilets in Caneland Central.
"If you are with Optus, then Alexandra is not the place for you," Mark Johnson said.
Other black spot area included Eungella Dam, Mt Ossa area, and Cape Hillsborough.
Other people in the Facebook community said it didn't matter where you were; it was the carriers that were causing the signal issues.
Sarah Davis said the latest black spot was the whole of Australia if you were with Telstra.
"If you're with Telstra, at the moment, everywhere," Alina Garnham agreed.
Telstra is offering a free data day on Sunday after outages earlier this month.
On March 18, Telstra CEO Andrew Penn had this to say: "We are still investigating how the service disruption occurred, but early findings show we had a problem that triggered a significant number of customers to be disconnected from the network, and as they were all automatically reconnecting at the same time, it caused congestion".
Since that announcement there has been another major outage of the Telstra service.
