Empire Theatre set to get Kinky with latest production

TOOWOOMBA theatre goers are set to put on their best stilettos when the musical adaptation of Kinky Boots opens at the Empire Theatre in March.

Empire Theatre General Manager Kerry Saul said he was thrilled the theatre was taking on Kinky Boots as the next major production in 2019.

"Coming off the back of several years of highly successful major productions, including The Pirates of Penzance, Wicked, Legally Blonde the Musical, Disney's Mary Poppins and The Phantom of the Opera, we are certain Kinky Boots will be no exception,” Mr Saul said.

"We are very much looking forward to putting together a brilliant creative team, cast and orchestra, which will start to come together over the next several months.

"The Empire Theatre is renowned for presenting high quality local productions and with music by Cyndi Lauper, an incredible story and some incredible dancing, Kinky Boots is the perfect choice for us.”

Based on a true story, Kinky Boots follows aspiring businessman Charlie Price who returns to his hometown to save his failing family business; a shoe factory.

He finds unexpected inspiration in the form of Lola, a fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos.

Kinky Boots will be presented at the Empire Theatre from March 22 to 31 next year.

Tickets will be on sale soon.

Expressions of interest for creative roles, as well as casting, will be open soon.
