Elderly take a spin back in time
THE cars might have been stationary but the occupants of the Sunshine Coast MG Car Club's vehicles went travelling back in time last Tuesday.
The club visited Regis Aged Care facility in Sippy Downs to display its passion projects and invited Regis' residents to re-live some of their younger days spent in similar cars.
Sunshine Coast MG car club member Les Dixon said the morning went "very well”.
"It was wonderful to see the pleasure that the older people got from coming out and looking at those cars, and seeing that it brought back memories for them,” he said.
"Some of the guys were old mechanics who had experiences working on those kinds of cars.”
Mr Dixon added it wasn't just the older residents who had a good time.
"We find it satisfying to find people appreciating our cars and we see these people take pleasure in coming out and being treated to something a little bit different,” he said.
Regis' facility manager Garry Holland said he noticed a great rapport between the car club and the residents.
"(Club members) had morning tea together with the residents, and they talked more and shared more stories,” he said.
"It was really beneficial both ways.
"We're just blessed to have nice weather and nice company.”
Mr Dixon, who has been a member of the club for more than 10 years, said it was a great group who regularly liked to take their cars out for displays, events and trips out.
"I find great pleasure in the fellowship from the club members,” he said.
