Communication skills vital to success of sports clubs
EFFECTIVE communication can mean success or failure in every club.
Simple tips include:
- Add "please" when you ask for help.
- Use "thank you" and create a positive tone. Start your email/letter with "Thank you for …" For eg. "Thank you for coming to our meeting."
- Use salutation - do you like it when you receive an email/letter without "dear" or "hi"?
- Little things count - be careful to avoid mistakes.
- Every interaction is a positive or a negative deposit or withdrawal in a metaphorical "emotional bank account". Make sure you make more deposits than withdrawals.
If you don't communicate well, you will waste time on damage control because someone became upset by a lack of communication or a common abrupt tone that made them feel unappreciated.
Over time, the cumulative effect of good communication can mean big things.
Athletics success
IT was great to see the Ipswich athletics community come together on May 26 to raise funds for Indie Taurima, who is fighting leukaemia.
Indie is the daughter of Sydney Olympics long jump silver medallist Jai Taurima.
It was fitting that the fundraiser was based around the long jump pit, with $1 donated per metre jumped.
The day at Limestone Park raised $1300. You can still donate to this great cause.
