Educate children on pitfalls of the booze

WE seem to be failing in our efforts to wipe out the problems that come about through binge drinking.

Road rage, family arguments and general bad behaviour have the government and the police at their wit's end, with a solution seemingly out of reach.

How angry would we get if someone soaked our computer with radioactive poison?

Soaking the brain with alcohol is worse still. It is a real destroyer of the brain cells. Each drink gives false courage and kills thousands of brain cells.

I feel we are starting too late in life to change this passion for the drink that we don't even understand.

The process should start at school - teach children the dangers and effects of excessive drinking, using visual aides including a visit to the courts to make them aware of the monster before it gets a chance to alter their brain and destroy their liver and kidneys. Let them look up some of their heroes that have lost their jobs through indulgence and pay them to speak to the children about how much of a shame it is to destroy our greatest asset - the brain.
