Rugby union: The Roma Echidnas have come a long way since they last held Super Saturday in 2005, and finishing the season in second place is a feat that last year seemed impossible.

"It's the first time Echidnas have been in the finals in 10 years,” A-Grade player Dan Coulthurst said.

"Especially compared to last year, we've had a massive turnaround.

"We've been in second place all year, we've only lost three games which is a big difference to only winning about three games last year.

"Finishing the season in this position has been a massive achievement and all of us boys are really proud of what we've done.”

For fellow player Ben Bright, this Saturday's clash against Rangers will be a chance for the Echidnas to redeem themselves following a tough Saturday match in which they went down 31-19 in Toowoomba.

"We had a nice, tough match against them. We'll come out of the gates flying ready for a big game on Saturday,” he said.

"We're looking to redeem ourselves.”

Team captain Matt Wilkie said the addition of a few new players had made a massive difference to the club this season.

"We probably only had six recruits and everyone else has stuck around.

"The front row really hasn't changed but we've got new combinations which are starting to jell together,” Wilkie said.

"Once you have continuity with who you're playing with, it sort of settles you.

"The community has really noticed our turnaround and we're getting more people to come out to the games.

"We've also just gotten a bit of club culture back, which just makes a difference.

An action-packed full day of football is on the cards for spectators this weekend, as Galas Fox plays host to six games of football in three grades.

"It should be a really good, big day of football, it's something us boys are proud of and we hope everyone can get behind us,” Bright said.
