Early flights still grounded

VIRGIN Australia has no good news for those still mourning their early morning flights from Coffs Harbour to Sydney, which were suspended in March.

When the 6.30am flights to Sydney were axed, a Virgin spokeswoman said the situation was temporary and would be addressed when new, more fuel-efficient planes were integrated into the current fleet.

In August the manager of the Coffs Harbour Regional Airport, Dennis Martin, said he was confident they would have something positive to announce in the next month or so and the announcement of a new Virgin service between Port Macquarie and Brisbane would not have an impact on the re-introduction.

Daily return services with Virgin between Port Macquarie and Brisbane commenced yesterday with new ATR turbo prop aircraft.

Mr Martin said yesterday negotiations with Virgin were continuing over an early-morning service.

A spokesman for Virgin said they continued to review opportunities to adjust their schedules.

"However, at this stage we are unable to confirm if, or when, the schedule might next be adjusted," he said.

"It is a complex issue with a range of factors to be balanced.

"The current schedule allows us to continue to operate two services each way per day between Coffs Harbour and Sydney".

Qantas still operates a daily flight which arrives in Sydney for morning business meetings but business people are grumbling about the increasing cost of tickets

Mr Martin said Port Macquarie was losing its jet service which was being replaced with the turbo prop aircraft.

Port Macquarie lost its twice-daily service to Brisbane when Brindabella pulled out of the route.
