Dud Thud costs Shinn a chance at third Grafton Cup
RACING: Reigning Grafton Cup winning jockey Blake Shinn will not take part in this year's July Racing Carnival after receiving a one month suspension from Racing NSW stewards.
Shinn, who has won the last two Grafton Cup features on board Gai Waterhouse runners Bonfire and Queenstown, was found guilty on Tuesday of not giving Peter and Paul Snowden galloper Thud every reasonable chance to win the Schweppes Handicap (1200 metres) at Rosehill Gardens on June 18.
Despite Thud's trainers Peter and Paul Snowden supporting Shinn and his ride, stewards charged the jockey and handed him the one-month ban which he indicated he would appeal.
Shinn's clean record under this rule over a 13-year career was regarded by stewards during the judgement.
While Shinn may be ruled out for the carnival there will still be plenty of world class hoops on hand when it kicks off in one week's time.
