Driver who deliberately brake-checked truck fined $889

A MOTORIST whose actions could have caused multiple fatalities has been banned for driving from six months after deliberately brake-checking a 62 tonne truck on a highway.

The Border Mail reported Gary Richard Robertson, 49, was given the disqualification for his reckless behaviour at Barnawartha in Victoria last September.

The paper reported he had told police the truck driver, Stuart John Annison, had cut him off as he travelled down the Hume Highway but the truck's dashcam footage revealed he had brake-checked the truck.

In the Wodonga Magistrates Court, Magistrate Ian Watkins slammed Robertson for his actions, saying if the truck struck his car there could have been multiple fatalities.

Robertson pleaded guilty to careless driving and was ordered to pay a $889 fine, including costs.
