Driver critical after highway smash

A MAN remains in a critical condition this morning after a serious smash involving a car and a truck in the state's southeast.

The two vehicles collided on the Riddoch Hwy in Lochaber, just north of Naracoorte, about 4.30pm on Monday.

The crash sparked a fire, which was quickly extinguished before emergency services arrived.

It was reported the male driver of the car was trapped in the wreckage before being freed.

He was rushed to the Naracoorte Hospital where he remains in a critical condition after suffering serious injuries.

Local police closed the highway to investigate the crash, but it has since re-opened.
