THE Dalby Players Little Theatre will be packed to its rafters with dramatic enthusiasm this weekend, when performers from all over Queensland gather for the Dalby Drama Festival.

Troupes from Redcliffe, Caboolture, Ipswich, Beenleigh, Rothwell, and of course Dalby, will be entering plays into the Festival competition, which runs over Saturday and Sunday.

Dalby Drama Festival committee member Nancy Evans said the Dalby Players will be performing two plays over the weekend: The Kite, written by Jill Shearer and directed by Lesley Stewart, and The Myall Creek Crop Circle Caper, written by Hugh O'Brien and directed by Adele Jasper.

"The Dalby performers have been rehearsing since the first week of April, and of the five performers in The Myall Creek Crop Circle Caper, four are new to the Dalby Players,” Ms Evans said.

"The Drama Festival is an opportunity for people to see plays that they wouldn't normally see here in Dalby, and just to see some of the new work that people are writing as well.

"It's one of the more popular festivals on the south-east Queensland drama festival circuit, and some of the groups have been coming back to Dalby for 20 or more years now,” she said.

Over the three sessions of the Dalby Drama Festival, 10 different plays ranging between 20 to 50 minutes in length will be part of the competition.

One additional 10-minute play will also be performed.

The three sessions of performances for the Dalby Drama Festival will be Saturday at 1pm and 7pm and Sunday at 10am.

Ms Evans said the plays on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning are suitable for a general audience, however the Saturday night session would be more suited to adults.

Dalby Players will be performing The Myall Creek Crop Circle Caper at 2.50pm on Saturday and The Kite at 7pm on Saturday.

The festival will culminate with a final adjudication and trophy presentation at 1pm on Sunday, which will determine first, second and third places, as well as best actor, best supporting actor, best actor in a minor role, best junior actor, a playwrights' award, and best Australian play.

Admission is $10 per person and tickets are only available at the door.

Festival organisers encourage attendees to arrive on time because once a play has started, there will be no admission into the theatre until the end of that play.
