Dragons abreast team keen to attract new members
THE Sunshine Coast Dragons Abreast team is living proof there is not only life after breast cancer, but a fun and active one at that.
The team is always looking for breast cancer survivors - male and female - to give dragon boating a try and perhaps take up the sport.
Participants tasted recent success at the Dragons Abreast National Regatta.
A Queensland composite team of 13 Sunshine Coast, three Bundaberg and five Brisbane DA members gained third place in the Knock Out Challenge as well as 4th place in the 200m finals.
Now, the Sunshine Coast Dragons Abreast breast cancer team is eager to grow - they just need more new members to have a go.
The team is part of the Maroochy Sea Serpents Dragon Boat and Outrigging Club.
Based at the Maroochy River Resort near the Waterfront Hotel, the training sessions are held on the lagoon, the Maroochy River and Eudlo Creek.
The team has been successful in two grant applications: the Sunshine Coast Council major sport grant and Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
Through these grants, the team has been able to acquire a marquee, GPS and a pink-scaled dragon boat.
