Dog friend inspires winning quilt
COLLINSVILLE quilter Sheryl Fordham will have her winning quilt at this year's Craft and Quilt Fair in Brisbane.
Mrs Fordham was a finalist in this year's Australian Quilt Convention's (AQC) 'Paws and Whiskers' challenge.
Her creation "GD Fordham” was inspired by her doggy pal GD.
"GD stands for grandma's dog,” Mrs Fordham said.
The pomeranian cross's material portrait will travel Australia, being displayed at different fairs and conventions.
The quilt depicts 'GD' lounging on a suede cushion, and was created with Huacaya fleece, invisible thread and even broom bristles.
This is not Mrs Fordham's first winning quilt.
She proudly hangs five of her prized creations at home.
Mrs Fordham became interested in quilting 10 years ago through a friend and has turned her passion into a market-based business, a hobby and a pastime.
Mrs Fordham prides herself on designing her own quilts.
"I draw, design and make the quilts - I like to challenge myself,” she said.
Children's quilts are a passion but Mrs Fordham is working on a Ford inspired quilt for an adult male.
