IF PLANTATION Diggers can continue its unbeaten run in today's one-day clash, it will set up the team as one of the top outfits for the upcoming summer.

The Diggers have overcome Dorrigo and Urunga so far this season but today's match against PBBC Colts will provide the team's first true test of its finals credentials.

A week ago the Colts scraped home against Dorrigo but managed to post a large total that made the rest of the competition sit up and take notice.

Craig Haworth has played more games of cricket than some of his teammates have had hot dinners but his century for Colts last week proved he's still among the top echelon of batsmen on the Coffs Coast.

His ability with the blade is something Diggers captain Alex Byrne is wary of leading into this afternoon's fixture at Coffs Coast Sport and Leisure Park.

"There's players there like Haworth and (Matt) Rose who can make lots of runs so we'll be trying to get them fairly cheap," Byrne said.

"There's a couple of key wickets if you can get them early you could be set."

Not that Byrne is expecting his bowlers to receive much assistance from the wicket.

"It's a pretty flat deck," he said.

"If we can get a few runs on the board hopefully it's enough."

Urunga and Dorrigo will meet in today's other first grade match at Brelsford Park. Both teams are looking for their first wins of the season, while Sawtell has the bye.
