CONTROVERSIAL broadcaster Derryn Hinch has been found guilty of contempt of court over comments he made online about Melbourne woman Jill Meagher's killer.

Hinch, 69, took to Twitter and his blog to comment Adrian Bailey's criminal history while he was still before the courts earlier this year.

The "Human Headline" is no stranger to the Victorian court system but on Wednesday, he maintained that this time, he was not in the wrong.

Speaking to reporters outside court, a visibly upset Hinch said he believed he was an innocent man.

Asked about how he felt about the real prospect of being sent to jail, Hinch replied, "The thing about this one is - I didn't do it".

He said it angered and puzzled him that other media outlets were not pulled up on other controversial comments and he felt as though he had been made a scapegoat.

Hinch will front a plea hearing next week.

Bailey is serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of Jill Meagher at Brunswick last year.
