Della's out to do Mackay proud on MKR

DELLA Whearty hopes to do herself and Mackay proud on My Kitchen Rules tomorrow night.

The lawyer and her best mate Sarah Tully are out for redemption after serving up raw quail during their first instant restaurant.

"I love being in Mackay; I've got a massive support network up here and the reception to me being on MKR has been beautiful," she told the Mercury.

"I go to Coles and people ask me what I'm cooking. I am proud to be from a place like this."

Despite winning several challenges over the past few weeks, the 30-year-old said she had a lot of nerves leading up to her and Tully's ultimate instant restaurant, the result of which will determine if they make the reality cooking show's quarter finals.

"I just felt like if we struggled doing one entrée, main and dessert for less people (in our first instant restaurant), then how are we going to do this? Now there's more people and double the work.

"I hate failure, and the idea of failure in front of 1.5million people was really freaky for me."

If the dinner goes well then it will be a bit of good news amongst the damage and devastation Tropical Cyclone Debbie left in her wake this week.

As the region begins its recovery, Della revealed she had her own drama during the storm.

"I ended up in hospital," she said.

"I had an infection. I was so sick and a couple of hours after it had hit we had to get there in the cyclone. Luckily we live only around the corner, but it was still scary getting there."

During the filming of their ultimate instant restaurant, it was Tully who was feeling under the weather.

The Brisbane-based nurse had just found out she was pregnant for the first time, and only Della and a few of the show's producers knew about it.

"Nobody (the teams or judges) knew at our ultimate instant restaurant that Tully wasn't feeling the best," Della said.

"Tully had just found out about her pregnancy and I felt bad for her because it was going to be a massive day. All credit to Tully because she was a powerhouse."

Della was also keen to clear the air on this week's headline-grabbing incident when MKR 'villain' Josh Meeuwissen called Amy Murr a sl*t.

"When he said 'thanks sl*t' none of us heard that... I hate that people think we let it go by," she said.

"If I had heard it clearly at the table then I would have pulled him up on it.

"The most disappointing part of MKR this season is Channel 7 has chosen to give this d**khead so much airtime. Reality is he's exactly like that. He chose to say those things and production loved him for it.

"What's unfair for the rest of us is they've put so much of him on the show. It's a shame because there's been so much good cooking that's gone on and so much good banter and encouragement."

Della and Tully's ultimate instant restaurant airs on Channel 7 tomorrow at 7pm.
