Della and Tully find instant restaurant redemption on MKR
DELLA and Tully banished their instant restaurant demons on My Kitchen Rules tonight.
The 'foodie friends' scored five points higher than fellow Queenslanders Amy and Tyson for their ultimate instant restaurant, securing the duo a spot in the reality cooking show's quarter finals.
Learning from their mistake of trying to show off with their original instant restaurant menu, Mackay's Della and Quilpie native Tully decided to serve the food they love cooking for their friends and family.
"Our first instant restaurant just didn't go to plan; it fell apart," Della said.
"I really want to show the judges that was a slip up and that's not us."
They got off to a cracking start, serving up two near-perfect seafood entrees.
"I've got one word to describe this entrée - gorgeous, really gorgeous," Manu Feildel said of their garlic bugs entrée.
Manu went on to score the dish a perfect 10, fulfilling a long-held dream for Della.
"I've been watching MKR for so many years and all I've ever wanted to do was stand in front of Pete and Manu and score a perfect 10, so thank you Manu," she said.
Even 'seafood king' Josh was impressed, calling the bugs 'next level', 'restaurant quality' and 'best bit of seafood' he's eaten in the competition so far.
His uncharacteristic praise was met by stunned looks from the other teams:
Things went slightly downhill in the main course. The overly salty Prik Nam Pla, or fish sauce, overpowered the beef short ribs and the pork neck lacked a sauce.
"The pork was cooked well; it was tender. I like that char on the outside of it and your beans and radishes are also quite nice, but where does it go to from there?" Pete Evans said.
"There's no sauce on the plate. Manu asks for sauce always because it finishes a dish. For me this is an incomplete dish; you dropped the ball, sorry."
Della and Tully battled through their final course to serve up two contrasting dishes. Their tart was a hit while their take on an ice cream sundae confused their guests.
Back to his normal self, Josh calls it the worst sundae he's ever had.
"I look at both desserts and I don't understand they're coming from the same kitchen" Manu said.
"This tart is brilliant; it's simple, petite. You'd find that in a patisserie shop in France."
Mark and Chris will host their ultimate instant restaurant tomorrow night.
