Della and Tully are MKR's new frontrunners

MACKAY'S Della Wheartly and Quilpie's Sarah Tully are the team to beat on My Kitchen Rules.

The foodie friends earned the title of judges' choice in tonight's beach barbecue challenge with their dish - barbecue prawns with kale and avocado mousse.

Colin Fassnidge and Pete Evans praised the duo for their perfectly cooked prawns and making kale, a leafy green usually relegated to smoothies, taste good.

"You did the best job out of everybody," Pete said.

"You made kale taste good and not a lot of people can do that. You cooked the dish of the day for me."

Fassnidge was as equally enthusiastic, saying the dish evoked the image of Paul Hogan 'throwing a shrimp on the barbie'.

"That's (the) beach to me," he said. "There were only three items on that dish and I loved it, dish of the day."

Supposed 'seafood king' Josh even felt threatened, kicking himself after the challenge for not also cooking seafood.

While they didn't win people's choice, which went to Tim and Kyle, the praise from the judges marks Della and Tully as two talented cooks on the rise.

Brisbane siblings Amy and Tyson and Tasmanian couple Damo and Caz were the two lowest scoring teams and will face off in a sudden-death cook-off on Sunday night.
