Our open letter to Saving Mr Banks star Tom Hanks
DEAR Mr Hanks,
The people of the Fraser Coast can't wait to see your new film, Saving Mr Banks.
Maryborough has a strong tie to Mary Poppins author PL Travers as she was born in our beautiful city.
We were so disappointed that the scenes showing Ms Travers' childhood could not be filmed here. It would have really cheered us up as we are struggling through the social and economic side effects of two major floods in three years.
But we feel a little sorry for you too - you missed out on filming in Paradise!
The Fraser Coast has far more than just heritage charm.
We are also one of the best places in across the globe to get up close to migrating whales, we have some of Australia's safest beaches, and we're right on the doorstep of one of the world's most amazing natural wonders, Fraser Island.
Our seafood is famed all over the world, and we're also known to like a party - we host the World's Greatest Pub Fest every year.
For a small place, we have a lot going on.
But most importantly, we know how to make visitors feel welcome.
We will roll out the red carpet for you and your friends when you come to Maryborough so the only question is... Are you ready for the trip of a lifetime?
Hope to see you soon!
