Dean loves life on the road

"I STARTED my day off loading construction odds and ends from my jobs and then loaded this generator at Margate, and now I'm on my way home, and looking forward to getting warm and knocking off after this cold winter day!"

Dean Holmes from Cressy told us when we caught up with him taking a refreshment break at Mood Food, Bennett's 24 hour Caltex Truck stop and Roadhouse on the Midland Highway just north of Kempton.

He was driving his Holmes Heavy Haulage 2008 K-108, towing a flat deck trailer.

"I've been in this business for three years now, and am really enjoying it. I've also got a CH Mack working construction, and it's a great business, with its own challenges, but that's OK too so long as nothing unexpected throws a spanner in the works," he said.

"I've been on the road for about 15 years now, and it has suited me well so far. We are certainly keeping busy at the moment, and that's about all you can ask for now days."

We asked him about time off.

"That's that rare time you mean when I try to get away from it all and go bush, just me and my dogs, I guess."
