"I STARTED the day with a load of construction odds and ends down to Margate, and I'm now on my way home, and looking forward to getting home and knocking off for the day!”

Dean Holmes from Cressy told us the other day when we caught up with him taking a refreshment break at Mood Food, Bennett's 24 hour Caltex Truck stop and Roadhouse on the Midland Highway just north of Kempton.

He was driving his Holmes Heavy Haulage 2008 K-108 and towing a flat deck trailer at the time.

"I've been in this business for three years now, and am really enjoying it. I've also got a CH Mack working construction, and it's a great business, with its own challenges, but that's OK too, well until the engine light comes on.

"I've been on the road for about 15 years now, and it has been a life that has suited me, so no, no real regrets. We are certainly keeping busy at the moment and all is going well all round, and that's about all you can ask for!”

We asked him about time off, and he replied:

"That's that rare time when I try to go bush, whenever possible, just me and my three dogs!”
