Deadline extended road safety tribunal draft submissions

REQUESTS to extend the deadline for comments on draft road safety remuneration orders have been listened to by the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal (RSRT).

The RSRT has now extended the deadline for comments on the draft orders proposed by organisations and individuals in response to an invitation in the RSRT's first Annual Work Program.

Participants now have until Monday May 13 ,2013 to comment.

Over the past month the RSRT has been conducting community consultation sessions and calling for comment on the proposed draft orders which can be viewed on the Tribunal's website at www.rsrt.gov.au.

The drafts and submissions propose that the RSRT make road safety remuneration orders for the retail, interstate long distance, intrastate long distance, livestock and/or bulk grain sectors of the road transport industry on various matters, including:

  • minimum hourly and kilometre rates
  • cost models
  • working time payments
  • payment periods
  • safe driving plans
  • workplace health and safety training
  • a training levy
  • drug and alcohol policies
  • casual conversion to permanent employment
  • written contracts for services covering various topics.

Written comments on the drafts and submissions may include alternative drafts of road safety remuneration orders and accompanying written submissions in support.

The written comments received to date have been published on the RSRT's website.

Trailer Allowance

A contractor driver who, in order to perform a contract of carriage, is required to supply

a flat top trailer for use in a contract of carriage shall be paid the following allowances

for each day (and proportionately for part of a day) during which the equipment is used

for the purpose of the contract of carriage:

(a) Single Axle $18.12 per day

(b) Dual Axle $23.75 per day

 (c) Tri Axle $29.21 per day
