Days away from Mackay's massive pop culture expo

FANS are counting down the days until Haven Video Games and Pop Culture Expo takes over the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC).

One of the largest gaming and pop culture events in Queensland, Haven, will be held next Saturday and Sunday.

The family friendly event caters to gamers, movie buffs, comic book fans and cosplayers (costume roleplayers) and will include a variety of special guests.

That includes US voice actor Quinton Flynn (Metal Gear series, Final Fantasy), video games journalist Alanah Pearce, cosplayer Vera Chimera and freelance games writer, producer and author Liam Esler.

They'll accompany hosts David 'Quinny' Quinn and Rae Johnston, alongside a raft of other guests.

Photos and autographs will be available on the day.

Haven also features live action stage shows, the latest in console gaming, cosplay tutorials, tabletop card games, stalls, vendors and more.

Cosplay (costume roleplay) is an integral part of the colourful event and attendees often dress up as their favourite pop culture icon.

A cosplay competition - Haven's Ultimate Cosplayer - will be held over the weekend.

More than $2000 in prizes will be up for grabs.

Tickets to Haven range from $28 for a Sunday pass to $98 for a weekend pass.

Check the Haven Video Games and Pop Culture Expo website or the MECC website for more information or to buy tickets.
