Dave rates the 900km trip from coast to Mt Isa challenging

FOLLOWING the closure of the railway line between Mount Isa and Townsville after floods scores of trucks hauled copper.

Dave Christensen was driving a Kenworth 409SAR AD Triple for Followmont Transport when we saw him on the outskirts of Townsville. .

"I have copper from Mount Isa and have been a truckie for 40 years,” he said.

That is a wonderful innings considering super fit Dave is aged 57.

Dave said the 900km trip between the coastal port and Mount Isa in the outback could be challenging.

"The Flinders Hwy between Richmond and Hughenden is rough,” he said.

That opinion of many others drivers I have spoken to recently.

On the western side of Hughenden is Dave's favourite roadhouse - The Lights On The Hill.

Dave said the floods have resulted in fewer caravans on the road and he said more rest areas are needed with toilets.

"I follow the Cowboys in the football,” he said.
