Dam the tributaries of the Mary River: letter

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

BY BUILDING four main dams on the four main tributaries of the Mary River, south of Gympie, you not only gain water security for the Hervey Bay area south, but by using the northern pipeline that was built to send water from Traveston through to the Sunshine Coast and to Brisbane, you have guaranteed water supply for all of the south-east Queensland.

This also has the benefit of largely flood mitigating Gympie and, to a degree, Maryborough also.

By building these dams there are also big benefits for employment for the Sunshine Coast and Cooloola regions.

It also creates a wonderful environment for boating, camping, fishing and tourism in general.

It gives water security from Brisbane to Hervey Bay out to River Heads for many decades.

In conclusion, we cannot afford not to do it.

Tom Craig,

Curra.
