Daily News hot off the new presses in your backyard
AS of today, we are now a complete product of the town with the Warwick print facility printing your Daily News for the first time in 15 years.
The change has brought about a positive boost to the economy and employment rate of the community, introducing an additional 30 jobs within the company.
"This is a big day for our Warwick operation," APN Australian Regional Media CEO Neil Monaghan said.
"Not only does the Daily News print back in its home town for the first time in years, but we have made the site a crucial hub for Australian Regional Media.
"We've invested a not insignificant amount of money in new press equipment, and boosted staffing levels alongside that.
"We will print more papers than we ever have there.
"It's a sign of our faith in the people of Warwick, and in the publishing future for ARM in Queensland and northern New South Wales."
Yesterday saw the first live web press and first live production on the new digital press kick off at the facility. General Manager of the facility Allan Ruhle said the print industry was alive and well and wouldn't be phased out anytime soon.
"We're certainly one of the printers going against the trend, especially with all the technology going in," he said.
Employees fired up a brand new web press machine ready to roll out today's news.
The first newspaper printed was today's edition of the Southern Downs Weekly.
From now on the site will print the Daily News alongside the Chronicle and the Queensland Times.
The paper was last printed in Warwick in 1999 at the Daily News office building on Albion St.
Daily News General Manager Nick Inmon said he was excited to see the paper printed in town.
"It's an indicator from APN ARM, parent company of the Warwick Daily News, that the future of print is very bright and an even bigger vote of confidence on the future of the Southern Downs region," he said. "Congratulations to Allan Ruhle and his highly skilled team of tradespeople on lobbying to make this plant one of the best in Australia."
