Daffodil Day Mackay launch to be held at council building

CANCER Council Queensland will launch the state's most iconic fundraiser, Daffodil Day, in Mackay today at noon.

The 2015 Daffodil Day launch will be held inside the Mackay Regional Council.

Ten council members, Cancer Council staff, and volunteers will be invited to write a message of hope to local cancer patients to be displayed in Cancer Council's garden of Hope.

Mayor Deirdre Comerford invited the community to show their support for Daffodil Day this year.

"Many residents in our community have been touched in some way by family or friends being diagnosed with cancer and Daffodil Day is an opportunity to remember loved ones and make a donation to the cause of finding a cure for cancer," Cr Comerford said.

Cancer Council Queensland regional fundraising co-ordinator Terri Muscat said the event will officially launch Daffodil Day in Mackay.

"A bright splash of yellow does more than light up the community - it means we are taking active steps to beat cancer and to show our support to those affected," Ms Muscat said.

"We are thankful for the kind support of the Mackay Regional Council in helping raise important awareness and encouraging locals to get on board.

"Cancer Council Queensland hopes to raise $1.7 million during the Daffodil Appeal (August 1-31) and on the official Daffodil Day (August 28) to support its work in cancer research, education and support."

Get involved by wearing a pin to show you care, donating to the Daffodil Appeal, volunteering or turning your school or business yellow.
