Cyclone could bring rain to the Western Downs
THE Western Downs could see rainfall of between 50 and 100mm over the next 48-hours as Tropical Cyclone Marcia spreads wild weather across the state.
Bureau of Meteorology spokesman Jess Carey said it was likely the category one cyclone would cross the coast near Gladstone tonight, pushing high rainfall right down into South East Queensland with some areas expecting up to 500mm.
Mr Carey said there was good potential that rain would spread into the Southern Darling Downs but that it was "relatively unlikely" that it would turn into a major flood event across the Myall Creek and Charley's Creek catchments.
"But people should remain vigilant because Taroom, Chinchilla, and Dalby could see rainfall of between 50-100mm late on Thursday and into Friday," he said.
