Tour of Toowoomba wraps up

THE INAUGURAL Tour of Toowoomba has concluded with Victorian cyclist Pat Shaw (Virgin Blue-RBS Morgans team) taking the title.

Cameron Peterson (also Virgin Blue RBS-Morgans) took out line honours for today's leg – the third and final of the tour – but Shaw took overall honours.

Dale Parker (National Junior Road) won the tournament’s second place, while Peterson took out the third.

The rain held out on a bleak Toowoomba winter’s day for the presentation of awards but the assembled crowd still got wet, Shaw spraying them with champagne from the winners’ dais.

Fourteen cycling teams took to Darling Downs roads for the inaugural Tour of Toowoomba which began on Friday morning with the Clifton to Pittsworth race.

Tasmanian Ben Grenda (Genesys Wealth Advisers team) took out line honours for Day One.

Day Two saw riders cycle from Highfields to Crows Nest, before returning to finish at Highfield. Another Genysys member, Nathan Earle, claimed victory.

Today’s leg had riders travel from Toowoomba to Mt Kynoch, then return to Toowoomba for a criterium around Queens Park before crossing the Lindsay Street finish line.
