Cyclist wins against truckie after 'terrifying' moment

WHEN a truck passed by cyclist Ron Hewes on Worongary Road, it came so close to him he thought he was going to die.

Mr Hewes reviewed the footage, took it to police where he made a statement and decided to take the driver to court.

Last week, he won his case in the Southport Magistrates Court, thanks to his bike cam.

Mr Hewes told The Gold Coast Bulletin that he did not stand to personally benefit from the court case and his intent was purely to teach a lesson about road safety.

"Road safety is the most important issue," he told the Newscorp publication.

"Sometimes it goes in the too difficult box so it's just lucky I had the cameras.

"If I didn't have the cameras nothing would have happened."
