FROM six students at the Rampton family home in 1969 to more than 100 students in 2014, Ramptons Danzenergy Studio has thrived in Gladstone.

But owner Sherrie Rampton is closing the Toolooa St studio doors on December 30.

The 43-year-old mother of two says she is ready to embark on a new chapter in her life.

"I have been married for two years and my husband got a job transfer and I want to go with him," she said.

"We will most likely be moving to Darwin at this stage."

Ms Rampton said although it broke her heart to tell her students, it was the right time.

"The last two years have been so successful with eisteddfods and end-of-year performances and I thought it was a good time to finish while we were on top," she said.

Ms Rampton said it would be hard to adjust to life without dance.

"I am anxious because I am such a workaholic. The studio was my baby," she said.

"The hardest thing I ever had to do was tell the students at the break-up."

Student Grace Graham has been dancing with Ms Rampton since she was six-years-old.

"We are a family although we will miss Miss Sherrie," she said.

Ellah-Josie Ching, 11, said she was devastated.

"I have been dancing with Miss Sherrie for eight years, since I was three," she said.

"I will miss her because she is nice to me."

Ramptons Danzenergy Studio is one of the top dance schools in Gladstone.

It specialises in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary and acrodance.

Dancing was always in Ms Rampton's blood. She was destined to be a director as well as a choreographer and costume designer.

"I saw my mum do it so I just breathe it," she said.

Sherrie's mother Marj opened the academy 45 years ago.

She passed it on to daughter Camile who then passed it on to Sherrie 10 years ago.

They have taught generations of children in Gladstone, including ones who are now professional dancers internationally.

These include Dale Pengelly, Shannon O'Shea, Paul O'Shea and Michael Smith.

Ms Rampton was thankful to Gladstone for all the memories she had made.
