Crushers depleted but confident ahead of Spring Cup

THE Isis Crushers are warning other Spring Cup sides not to take them lightly this season.

The side will start its Spring Cup campaign against the Bundaberg West Barbarians tonight after losing a host of players in the off-season.

The Childers side has lost over a third of its squad, including stalwarts Kale Hendle and Tim Cole.

They have also lost coach Gary Maroney, who has moved to the Bundaberg Pythons.

"It's a bit of a bad circumstance,” Isis team manager Darren Golchert said.

"It's not ideal before the start of the season.”

But it isn't all bad news with the club securing eight new players, including a couple from rugby league to fill the void.

Golchert concedes it will take time for everything to click.

"It's certainly the cliche of taking things one week at a time,” he said.

"There's no time frame for when it will all click.

"We've had no game time together and it could be a hiding to nothing early.”

Golchert said the side would be underdogs for the first few games of the season but the new additions would allow the team to be better balanced in the backs and forwards in the future.

Isis takes on the Barbarians at 8pm tomorrow at The Waves Sports Ground.
