AMY Rann is too scared to live in the house she rents.
Her fear rose on the Easter weekend after her mother and her two-year-old son were lying on the bed and it fell through the floor.
Miss Rann, who is a 21-year-old single mother about to start studying criminal law at university, said there were holes in the floor of the Mt Morgan property which her son, Charlie, could stick his fingers into.
She claims the floor moved when she walked on it, there were nails sticking out of the floor in some spots and there was heavy duty sticky tape holding floorboards together.
Miss Rann said she was told by the person who showed her the property, prior to signing the lease agreement on March 14, that the floors would be fixed by the time she moved in, but the floors looked no different today than they did on March 14.
While Miss Rann pays $200 a week for rent, the median rent price in Rockhampton in the December 2011 quarter was $270 and Mt Morgan's was $175 for a two-bedroom house, according Rental Tenancy Authority data.
She claimed that since signing the lease agreement, she has only spent four days in the property, partially due to her fears and partially due to works and services having to be carried out that she had requested.
Miss Rann said there were parts of the wall that were rotten and falling away, and electrical wires under the house that weren't covered when she first moved in.
"I have physically taken part of my (rotted) wall into the real estate agent," Miss Rann said.
Miss Rann said Charlie had come running out of his bedroom with it, using it like a sword.
"All I want is to live in a home that is safe for my child," Miss Rann said.
When The Morning Bulletin approached the owner/landlord of the property yesterday, they declined to comment on matters they had been told would be the subject of an urgent application to the small claims tribunal.
